Spring break means you may be travelling with a tot. This year I won’t be travelling at all, but my little one goes everywhere with me, so we have had a lot of trial and error in the past two years when it comes to travelling. The very first time I took a long car trip with my daughter, she was about 6 months old. I wasn’t sure what I needed so I packed EVERYTHING. It took longer to pack- then unpack the car then we had on our mini vacation. From toys to bottles, and various types of foods, we had only a days worth of clothes for hubby and I but a month’s worth of baby items. I’ve since learned my lesson, and I finally know what is necessary and what isn’t. Of course you want to be overprepared, but I think we took it to a whole new level the first time around.
In the most recent trips we have taken with my now toddler, we have to think of ways to keep her entertained for a longer period of time in the car. She has gotten to the point where if she is bored, she will let you know! Check out some fun ideas for car and air travel:
• Get a good song book with all the lyrics. Its surprising how many songs you think you know to which you really don’t know all the words. Have a singing marathon and learn the old classics by heart.
• Rest Stop Athletics – Keep a frisbee or jump rope in the back of your car or van, along with a picnic blanket so when you stop at a rest area, everyone can run and be free and stretch their legs.
• Pipe Cleaner Creatures – Use fuzzy pipe cleaners to create all kinds of creatures that kids can also use for creative play. This activity can keep kids busy at the airport, on the plane or even when you get to your destination!
Another thing you can’t forget it to bring portable snacks that are mess free – or somewhat mess free! When you have a toddler, everything is messy! I always keep a bag full of Earth’s Best snacks, such as Sunny Days Snack Bars and Crunchin’ Crackers in the car to keep her little belly satisfied and also to keep motion sickness at bay. What I love best about Earth’s Best snacks is that they are made from organic wheat flour and fortified with calcium, iron, zinc and six B Vitamins. They contain no hydrogenated oil, trans saturated fats, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, and best part of all – the entire family will love them. I have snacked on her goodie bag on more than one occasion! Thankfully this baby food is delicious!
