We all know how important wearing sunscreen is, especially for babies and their sensitive skin. I use to put my toddler in cute bikini type swim suits, but I felt that I would constantly worry about missing a spot of skin with sunscreen. One of my friends was diagnosed with skin cancer and I was even more cautious about protecting my toddler after hearing this news. I saw other children on the beach with swim shirts on, and I needed to know more about them. Rhonda from UV Skinz was gracious enough to send me a sample to review and we started chatting about why she started making UV protective clothing. Here is what she had to say:
I started UV Skinz after losing my 32-year-old husband to melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. It was this experience and having to raise our three little boys (1, 3, and 6 at the time of his death) on my own that gave me the drive and determination to educate consumers about the importance of proper sun protection any chance I can get, while still not losing site of how valuable it is to PLAY and HAVE FUN outdoors!
I was touched by her ambition and being courageous enough to use her own experiences to help others. We reviewed the UV short Sleeve in purple flutter (pictured on left) and I got it in a size 4, hoping that my toddler can get a few years of use out of it (she’ll be 2 soon). The shirt was a little baggy on her, but still protected her way more than any swimsuit would. I am much happier not having to slather sunscreen all over her every hour. I still use sunscreen, but I don’t have to worry about her upper torso being burned.
