When I was pregnant and found out I was having a little girl, everyone told me the best part about having a little girl was the dresses and the bows. I didn’t put much thought into it at the time because I was such a tom boy, but after I met my little princess many things changed! Although my toddler has not reached her second birthday yet, she already has her own unique sense of style. Now that it is summertime I have her in loose fitting dresses most of the time, but when she puts on a dress for a special occasion, it seems that magic happens in her eyes. In a matter of minutes, she transforms from a child into a princess and she says, “Look mommy, I’m a princess!” Her eyes light up and she runs to the mirror to inspect her new look.
I have a few costumes for her that she uses for dress up. She loves to pretend that she is a butterfly and will “flutter” through the house with her arms behind her back telling everyone that will listen that she is a butterfly. On occasion, she will leave the house with a pair of wings on because she wouldn’t have it any other way. She adores Tinkerbell and loves to pretend she is flying through the living room – it seems that she favors anything that flies!
It is amazing as babies grow up what their personal style reveals about them. She already has a whimsical sense of style and loves all things fairies and butterflies. She is definitely a girlie girl and loves anything that is purple. I often find her trying on my shoes and attempting to walk in them. It will be years before she grows into them, but her ambition amazes me more and more everyday.
Just yesterday she insisted on leaving the house with a pair of rainboots that grandma bought her. They still don’t fit her well and she hasn’t been able to balance well in them, but she HAD to wear them out. With a t-shirt, a pair of shorts, and rain boots, to many she may have looked like the most mismatched child, but to me- she was my whimsy little girl. Isn’t that the best part about having a little girl? Dressing her up like a little princess?
Do you have a little girl that loves to play dress up?
