A few weeks ago I started to get a familiar pang of nausea and eye pain that I hoped would go away on it’s own. In the past, I’ve learned to pay attention to the signs of my migraines. I knew how they started, and I usually got a clear warning that one was inching it’s way into my life to turn my routine upside down. Ironically I haven’t had a migraine since I was pregnant, and I was hoping I’d be free of them for a while. The more thought I put into it, the more I realized that by reintroducing dairy back into my diet after a 7 month hiatus of being dairy free, I may have triggered a migraine.
It started Friday afternoon. a wave of nausea and the feeling of being punched between my eyes. I went on with my day, unsure if it would get worse or better. As the day progressed, my nausea intensified, and my headache went from dull to throbbing. I tried to sleep it off… but by Saturday morning I was useless. Lights were too bright, sounds were too loud – it was a full blown migraine.

I was lucky a migraine hit on a weekend we weren’t busy and my husband was able to take the kids out for most of the day while I nursed my symptoms. I’ve had migraines where I had continue with our routine despite my symptoms, so while I was annoyed at the inconvenience this time, happening on a weekend was as easy as it was going to get for me.
