I try SO hard each year to be prepared with holiday gifting. When my hubby and I first got married, and before we had our daughter, we had a spare room that I called the “gift room.” I would shop throughout the year for things that I thought would be perfect for our family members, and stored them away in this room until their birthday rolled around or the holidays came. Initially, my husband would mock me – “Are you seriously shopping for next Christmas? It’s JANUARY!” Then there were those miscellaneous toys and gifts that I would buy “just because” and my hubby would ask, “do we REALLY need that?” He stopped complaining when we got invited to a few impromptu events and guess what? We were prepared!
No matter how organized I am when it comes to gifting, there is always someone on my list that I forget and I find myself rushing to find the perfect item. I don’t like picking something out just to get something, and while I am a fan of gift cards and see nothing wrong with giving or receiving them, I still like to personalize each and every gift I buy. I find that the people I always forget to shop for are the adults in the family. Since we regard Christmas as a children’s holiday in our family, the adults are generally left out, and that is okay, however we still try to make each and every person feel special on Christmas day.
This year, I hate to say that the person I forgot to shop for is my mother in law. She does a lot for my hubby and I, and although she doesn’t expect anything in return, it is the one day that we get to say “thanks.” It is hard to shop for her, because she is the type of person that will go out and buy what she wants on her own. I can’t blame her, I do the same thing! I know she has been eyeing new dishes for her kitchen – and I think I know just what she will get! After dragging her shopping with me last week (read-having her babysit while I get to shop in peace) I found out exactly what she is looking for. The dishes she currently has are not part of a set and are piecemealed to have enough place settings. She wants a more uniform look in her kitchen and has decided on plain white dishes that are inexpensive and sold as a set. After listening to her requests, I think the perfect set for her would be the Corelle Dish Set offered at jcpenney.
While jcpenney has A LOT of things to choose from, they have put together a holiday gift guide for all those last minute shoppers. My favorite item on that gift guide? I love the Keurig Single Serve Coffemaker. I have one myself and I highly recommend it for the coffee lover in your life. For myself, I would love the new Isotoner gloves that allows you to use the touch screen on your phone without removing them!
