When my first daughter was born, a big fever-reducer brand was recalled and has since been recalled a few more times after that. At that time, our pediatrician suggested a store brand of fever reducer and claimed it worked the same and has to adhere to the same strict standards as name brands. He even confessed that he only uses store-brand products for his own children. Since that time, I’ve been more comfortable using store-brand products.
Now that I have three kids, not much has changed in the way of my preference for name brands vs store brands. We reach for store brands for medicines, so why not for baby formula? Truth be told- I breastfed all my kids, but I always have a can of formula in the house just in case. I learned all too well with my first that you might need formula in an unexpected event. Just like name brand formulas, store brand formulas have strict guidelines and must adhere to nutritional standards. Since store brand formulas are comparable to name brands without the hefty price tag, why not go for the cheaper option!?
