Every working mom has a busy morning routine without making sure they get everything ready for their kids. You can usually trust older children to pack all their books, stationery, and lunch, but younger kids perhaps require more help. Forgetting the essentials means they won’t get enough out of school, so it’s important to teach them how to be more organized and take some pressure off your morning routine.
Get Plenty of Sleep
You know as well as any parent how much of a battle it can be to get kids to sleep. They want to stay up playing games, chatting with friends, or reading, which means they don’t get enough sleep and can struggle to wake up the next day.
Failing to get enough sleep can lead to burnout during the school year and affect their ability to focus. If they wake up late, they might be in a rush to pack everything, meaning they could forget something important for their classes.
Pack Their Bags Early
You can avoid the stressful morning rush by packing your kids backpack early. Ideally, this is the night before as it makes sure they can get up, showered, eat breakfast, and be ready to leave as soon as they are dressed.
You might need to supervise your kids when doing this, especially as younger kids have a habit of bringing things they don’t need like toys, games, or their favorite garden rock to school. A checklist can make it easier for them and teach them some independence.
Keep Up With Their Schedule
Parents who keep up with their kids’ schedules can get ahead of essentials and organization. If you know your child has a project coming up, you can ask them if they have packed it before leaving the house. This also saves a panicked last-minute dash to the store when your child remembers they have a science project coming up.
If you know your kid has problems remembering dates in the year, speak to their teacher and request a copy of the curriculum, so you can make sure you and your child are prepared for everything.
Let Them Make Mistakes
As much as you want your child to be organized at school, you cannot look after them and rescue them from disaster forever. Letting them learn from their mistakes after forgetting an important project or piece of homework should encourage them to be more responsible.
Kids hate feeling left out of anything. So, while they might act like they don’t care, they won’t feel the same once they get to school and see their friends having fun with their projects. You can trust them to get things done themselves and take a step back as they get older. Hopefully, they’ll quickly learn they need to be more aware of upcoming school projects or events.
Organized
Teaching kids to be more organized ensures they can get everything ready to get out the door in the morning. Time management is a crucial skill that will benefit them for the rest of their lives, so it’s always worth helping them master this skill as early as possible.
