This past weekend my family had the opportunity to take a train ride with none other than Thomas the Tank himself! We took a ride to Essex, Connecticut, which is about an hour and a half from NYC. My little guy is a huge Thomas fan, and now that he’s old enough to understand and enjoy these excursions, we knew this trip would be quite enjoyable for him.

Once there, we were spoiled with amusement rides, a photo opp with Percy, balloon artistry, face painting, and even a magic show. The train itself was quite roomy with plenty of comfortable seating and space to move around. The ride itself seemed short and was just a ride with no specific location or things to see, but for little Thomas fans, it was a perfect amount of time. Music from Thomas and Friends blared through the speakers as kids sang and danced along.

My little guy and middle girl, (almost 4 and 7 years old) loved the ride, whereas my 9 year old was waiting for more and felt the ride wasn’t long enough. This shows us how their attention span grows as they get older and for little kids I think the short train ride was perfect – especially if you time it between naps, meals, and potty breaks!
You can find out if Thomas the Tank is coming to a location near you by visiting Day Out with Thomas.

I think the kids enjoyed the perks of the train ride, which was a small amusement park set up just for the riders, as well as the magic show, balloon artist, petting zoo, and our favorite- a photo opp with Percy. My little guy still talks about how he got to meet Percy and how his eyes and mouth moved on the train!
