For the past few years my family has been taking steps to reduce waste in our household. It all started with our garbage. I noticed that we had considerably more garbage bags waiting to be picked up by sanitation than the rest of our neighbors. I was confused as to why our garbage seemed piled up on the curb while the neighbors had theirs neatly in the garbage bins. At that time, I knew it was time to start making changes.
We started with small changes- we stopped using paper towels for everything and started using towels to clean up messes, spills, and dry our hands. Then we ditched the plastic water bottles for reusable stainless steel – and to this day we still use the same stainless steel bottles we got years ago. The kid’s lunchboxes are stainless steel as well, which last forever and you don’t have to worry about leeching!
This Earth Day I’ve teamed up with Zak to spread the word about making small changes that have a lasting impact. Their 20oz insulated tumbler is large enough to hold a good amount of iced- coffee or your favorite beverage, and it keeps your drink cold for hours! It’s narrow enough to still fit in the car cupholder, and it’s sturdy construction will last a long time.
You can get this same cup, the Zak Alfalfa tumbler from www.zak.com and get a 20% discount by using the code CHOOSETOREUSE any time before May 15th. This is a great way to eliminate some plastic from the landfills, and it’s easy!
