It’s so interesting to see the differences between my kids and whether or not gender plays a role in their gameplay. We’ve never adhered to strict gender guidelines when it comes to toys, my girls love superheroes and my son loves Rapunzel, although we already know he has a thing for blondes! When Playmobil offered to send their new RC racer for us to check out, I instantly knew my girls would have just as much fun with it as their brother would.
There’s something nostalgic about RC racers. Having an older brother, remote controlled cars were a big thing in our household and I loved being able to control a car in our game play. It was fun setting up races and creating obstacle courses to challenge ourselves. Having kids means I can get in on the fun once again, and show them some of my old tricks while they show me something new! It’s exciting, and I know my husband feels the same way because when that Playmobile RC Racer car showed up, his face lit up like a Christmas tree! As a matter of fact, there was a little disagreement about who would get their hands on it first. Being the keeper of the batteries, you know I got the first go with the Playmobil RC Turbo Racer (9089.)
This yellow racer has all the features we grew up with as kids, but with the added technology of Bluetooth where kids can use their parents’ smartphone to control their car. (App available for iOS and Android.) We kept gameplay simple and used the included steering wheel to play with the Turbo Racer.
Included in the package is a mini race car driver with a helmet, which the kids loved because they felt like they were not only controlling the car but the driver inside the car as well. Flashing lights were an added bonus! As many toys pile up in the lonely toy corner, the RC Racer is something that makes its way out nearly every day, even after a month of having it! The kids enjoy playing with it as much as my husband and I remember enjoying our RC cars when we were their ages.
There are a total of 3 RC racers in the Playmobil lineup, including the Turbo we reviewed as well as the red RC Rocket
and the green RC Roadster
. They are available for purchase at Amazon and retail for $39.99.
