I don’t think I ever mentioned this, but my family is originally from Europe. Cyprus to be exact (we are Greek). Traditional Greek recipes come out of the oven, not from a crock pot. I never saw a slow cooker in my life – that is until I got married and someone decided to buy it for us. I stored it away in a closet for about a year. A friend had suggested a few recipes for me to try and raved about how much she loved her crock pot. I decided to give it a go and looked up some recipes to try. This recipe that I am going to share with you is my all time favorite crock pot recipe for spare ribs (Ok, it’s a tie between this and pulled meat sandwiches.)
I have a few people coming over for dinner tonight, so I had to double my normal recipe (usually for 2.)
Apple Pork Spare Ribs with BBQ Sauce
3 pounds pork spare ribs (.99/lb this week!)
3 small apples
1 medium onion
dash of cinnamon
dash of allspice
salt and pepper
Any BBQ sauce (put in at end)
Place the sliced onions and sliced apples on the bottom of the crock pot. Place the spare ribs on top of the apples and onions. Sprinkle with cinnamon, allspice, salt and pepper.
Cook for about 5-7 hours, depending on your crock pot.
1/2 hour before they are done, drain the liquid and add 1/2 cup bbq sauce.
The meat just falls right off the bone and the house will smell wonderful all day!
PLUS: This whole meal cost under $10 and will feed 4-5 people! Enjoy!
Thank you for posting this recipe. I will have to try this soon. =)
