Back to school season is just around the corner, and in some states schools are already in session! The summer has been brutal, creating a great breeding environment for lots of colds and viruses. My toddler, who hasn’t been sick in about a year, has gotten sick TWICE within the past month! With high fevers, sniffles, and a bad case of lethargy, my little girl is so over being sick. I know that once kids get sick, their weakened immune system puts them at risk for secondary infections. This is the case with my tot because she never gets sick just once. After she contracts a virus, she is usually sick again within a week of recovering from the first infection.
Building up children’s immune system may be difficult, especially in picky eaters. While my little girl is a very good eater and enjoys veggies, protein, and whole grains, she does get quite picky now and then. This may be due to a growth spurt where her overall appetite is decreased, or it may just be her testing her boundaries, but either way, proper nutrition is the best way to keep her healthy.
I started giving her probiotics when she had her first stomach virus, and now I give them to her more often. A few weeks ago when she was on antibiotics I made sure that she also had a probiotic to balance the flora in her system. The purpose of a probiotic is to aid in digestion by putting back the good bacteria that may have been killed along with the bad bacteria that got her sick during the course of antibiotics. Since she will be exposed to more kids this upcoming fall, my plan is to give her probiotics more often in order to keep her immune system strong and her digestion regular.
I choose to give her Culturelle because they have a chewable form that is easy for her to take. She calls them her “invisible pills” because every time she takes them I pretend that they made her invisible and I can’t see her. It’s a fun game we play and she thinks it’s candy, when I know that it is a great way to keep her healthy. Culturelle has Probiotics for adults, packets and chewables for kids. You can find Culturelle at your local drugstore!

I actually didn’t know Culturelle had a kids product. This is great information, especially because my daughter will be starting pre-k in a few weeks and flu season is coming up. Thank you for this post!
I think probiotics make a difference.
I love Culturelle products – the kids’ ones have really helped and I, myself, take the adult ones daily.
Probiotics are so beneficial.

I love that they are making products like these so kid friendly.
If only I could get my kids to take something like this.
I need to get my kids to take these. We do what we can to keep away the back to school germies.
