The first year of my daughter’s life, she was exclusively breastfed and did not receive so much as a cold despite the fact that hubby and I were both working in schools. I was terrified that I would bring something home to her but as I suffered through the flu, the pediatrician urged me to continue to breastfeed throughout my illness, as this would prevent my infant from getting sick.
I wish I could say the same about this past winter. She seemed to get sick at least once a month. Roseola, RSV, colds, and stomach viruses, there was not a month that went by without a week-long illness that completely drained her. By her second stomach virus, I decided to start her on vitamins, although at that point she was eating very well. I didn’t know if it would make a big difference, but ever since she started taking vitamins she has not gotten sick. This past weekend she went to the doctor for a routine checkup and I inquired about switching her vitamins since she’s not really liking the liquid form anymore. He suggested different chewables as well as an additional Omega 3 to be added to her vitamin routine.
When searching for vitamins, I always look to make sure there are no added colors. I am now on a search to find gummy multi vitamins that contain natural sources of coloring. If your child is school-aged, then an addition of Vitamin C would be beneficial in keeping their immune systems strong enough to fight off colds. If you are like me, then you would be happy to know that Emergen-C Kidz does not contain any artificial colors and is easy to take – just add water! In three yummy flavors, Grape, Fruit Punch, and Orange, there is a flavor to suit even the pickiest tastebuds! I had my niece try out all the flavors (not at the same time) and she said her favorite was grape – my favorite was orange.
Not only are you helping build your child’s defenses this flu season by purchasing Emergen-C, but for ever Emergen-C Kidz sold, Emergen-C will donate 25 cents to Vitamin Angels to provide essential nutrients to one child for one year, helping reduce childhood mortality worldwide. For every pledge they will donate an additional 25 cents to Vitamin Angels, which means your commitment to your family’s health and wellness can help save a life too! To take the pledge, click here.
