Some of the best children’s products come from unsatisfied moms who find a way to make their lives easier. When I was about 2, I let go of my moms hand and ran across the street – I don’t remember this, but I DO remember the harness she made me wear after this incident. I can’t say enough horrible things about placing a harness on your child – but at that time, this is the “technology” they had available and my mom did not want to risk having her child run away into danger again. I can’t entirely blame her for the harness, but I don’t agree with it either.
The Gripster is a new mom-vention made for parents that want to treat their child with more… dignity. A child should NOT be put on a leash, but a fun and safe way to keep them close by is a must when you are taking them out shopping, or even more dangerous – an amusement park. Last weekend I took a trip up to Pennsylvania with a few cousins and their children. My toddler was the youngest one in the group, and needed to be watched a little closer. It is very easy to lose a child in the crowd! I brought my Gripster along with me and when I noticed her starting to wander, I made a fun game for her. I told her that the monkey on the end of the Gripster needed to be held tightly and she couldn’t lose him. She took her job very seriously and held onto the monkey, while I held on to the string attached to the other end. She thought it was a game – I felt secure knowing she was attached to me!
