Cloth Diaper Event: Oh Katy Diapers (#Giveaway)

I had heard about Oh Katy Diapers from a fellow cloth diaper mommy who swore by them. After checking out their site and realizing they won Babble’s 2011 Best Cloth Diaper award, I knew I had to try them myself.  The first thing I noticed about Oh Katy Diapers is that they are very soft – inside and out. They aren’t as stiff as other cloth diapers I used, and they had plenty of elastic to stretch well around various sized babies.

The next feature I love about the Oh Katy Diapers is that they came with two size inserts. Not too many One Size Pocket Diapers give you two sizes of inserts, so it was refreshing to see that this was truly a one size diaper and can accomodate smaller and larger babies. When your little one isn’t so little anymore, the newborn insert can be used overnight as a doubler – so you really get a lot of use out of these diapers.

When you place an insert inside the diaper, the diaper actually forms an envelope, so you never see the insert hanging out from either the front or back. This is a great feature because I always found that when inserts shift and they come out of the diaper, this also creates leaks and can wet clothing. If you have read my older posts about cloth diapering, then you know how much I love gussets. A diaper is not a functional diaper in my eyes if it does not have leg gussets. I feel that leg gussets prevent leaks and create a customized fit for baby. If you look at any effective disposable diaper, you will see that they all have gussets – cloth diapers should not be excluded! Oh Katy diapers are already awesome, but the gusset feature puts them over the top as a cloth diaper!

Have you ever heard of “wing droop”? That is when you place a one size diaper on a smaller baby and the side flaps hang out the top or the bottom of the diaper – looking sloppy. A lot of problems with one size cloth diapers is that they aren’t really one size because they don’t accomodate younger infants. Of course, Oh Katy has thought of that and created a newborn snap on the inside of the diaper to prevent wing droop and hold the diaper together!

Just when you thought Oh Katy has thought of it all, they come up with a unique system that I have not seen in any other diaper, eliminating the need for a wet bag (not that I would go out without one!) The diaper actually folds into itself, containing mess! GENIUS!
