Living in NYC, it is almost nonsensical to take a car anywhere! Between looking for parking (oh, and PAYING for parking) and traffic, you are better off just walking everywhere. Even if you have to walk all the way across town, you are better off doing that by foot – it will be much quicker that way. Unfortunately the rain doesn’t really stop NYers from doing anything. Errands still need to be taken care of, events still need to be attended, and if you have a toddler in tow, well, she’s coming along for the ride, rain or not.
I think I’ve done a pretty good job keeping my toddler warm and dry when we had to leave the house in rain. Her stroller has a plastic cover, so she NEVER get’s wet. She actually enjoys stroller walks in the rain- she tries to catch the water in her hands and hits the plastic out of excitement. I wish I could get excited over rain as she does, but I’m usually the one drenched and cold.
One day when I got stuck in a really heavy downpour and had to take cover in a local nail salon (how convenient) I thought that there should be a product for moms where an umbrella can be holstered onto the stroller. Let’s face it, no matter how many “supermom” skills you posses, it is near impossible to hold an umbrella and push a stroller at the same time. You are bound to get wet in the end anyway. Of course, I always say that the best baby products are invented by moms who had a need that was not met by anything on the shelves, so she went out and invented it. Now, I’m full of great ideas, but I’m not ambitious enough to file for patents and start production on anything. Complaining about non-existent products is just easier.
Ironically, a few weeks after this incident, I was contacted to review My Blue Bumbershoot. Really?? So these things DO exist? Yes, My Blue Bumbershoot is an umbrella that gets holstered on to your stroller (ANY STROLLER!) and keeps mama dry too! I was very excited when My Blue Bumbershoot arrived and waited patiently to review it. Rain wasn’t in the forecast for a few days, and with the weather getting cooler, I was reluctant to take my baby out unnecessarily just to review something. Until this past week when I had to attend an event. Rain was not in the works on this particular day, and then that morning as we were getting ready, I saw the forecast and grunted that I would have to trek along my toddler in the rain to this event. Then I remembered My Blue Bumbershoot and was actually a little excited about the rain. I packed us up, kept the stroller umbrella in the basket, and went on to the event.
It didn’t actually start raining until after the event, but I still hadn’t made it home yet. So I strapped My Blue Bumbershoot on to the stroller, and walked across town. I had a few people actually stop me and ask where I received the stroller umbrella and whether or not I had made it myself. I told everyone that asked that they can check out the My Blue Bumbershoot website to find out more information! You can connect with My Blue Bumbershoot on Facebook and Twitter too!
