When I was growing up, self esteem was not highly regarded. The people around me made me feel that if I had high self esteem I would be considered conceited. I knew I was good at certain things, but I could never be too outgoing about my successes because of my upbringing. Once I broke out of my shell and met the real world, I realized there was nothing wrong with having high self esteem and a healthy regard for yourself.
Now that I have two little girls of my own, I want to make sure that they have a healthy self esteem. As toddlers, they enjoy creativity and learning their boundaries. I try to foster their unique abilities by constantly reminding them how to recognize their successes. I don’t want them to ever feel stifled the way I did, and I never want their self esteem to deflate because of an inevitable failure. I hope my girls will learn that along with successes come failures, and that’s ok. Just pick yourself up and keep moving. I think self-confidence is just as important as being knowledgeable, because without self confidence, you may not have the drive to get things accomplished.
What makes YOU unstoppable? Dove has launched their new initiative which creates self-esteem boosting programs for young girls. Every purchase of Dove products helps provide programs for young girls where they can recognize their greatness. In a society where you have very strong female influences as well as high career positions taken over by women, it is important to help young girls understand the amazing things they are capable of. I personally love that Dove has provided this opportunity. They are a brand I use myself and I’m happy that every purchase I make will also make a donation to this self-esteem-boosting program for girls.
