Living in the city, my hubby and I were immune to lawn issues. We didn’t have a yard, much less lawn to worry about. Now that we are new home owners, we can finally take pride in our yard, plant flowers, have a veggie garden, and watch our girls tumble in the lush green lawn. There’s one problem – the precious owner didn’t take care of the yard. So, this is what it looks like:
This is just a small patch of the yard, but you can imagine just how bad the rest of it is! The first thing we are doing to fix this problem is watering the lawn. It’s in desperate need of some TLC, and I’m not sure if it is beyond fixing this year. So, the next step would be to plant seedlings at the end of the summer season. This may seem silly since winter would be a few weeks after that, but the seedlings need to be planted while the soil is still warm. This is also a good time to trim trees and get rid of anything that should be in the yard.
Another thing on our list is to call a TruGreen. TruGreen is a lawn specialist company that offers a variety of services to help get your lawn healthy and keep it that way. In our case, just watering isn’t going to help, so we need some advice and care tips on caring for something we never had to worry about before. You can check out the TruGreen site to see the services they provide in your area. TruGreen knows lawn- they take a scientific approach to caring for your lawn and know just what you need any time of year.
You can check our TruGreen’s social media sites on Facebook, Twitter, and view YouTube videos. Plus you can access educational resources for K-5 students at My Botanic Planet.

Thank you for these tips. We just recently moved into the city from the mountains and our lawn in non existent as of now, these will help me get a lawn for the kids to play on!!!
Well I don’t think tru green works on everything. Because I know someone who had a tree in their front yard and no grass would grow around the or near the tree so half of the yard was roots and dirt because the large tree was deep rooted and nothing (including tru green) would cause grass to grow at all
Thank you for this post. We have 2 dogs and have been looking for a way to keep our lawn green and lush since we moved here.
