Some may think my husband is unoriginal when it comes to finding the perfect gift for me, mainly because he gets me the same thing for every birthday, holiday, and Mother’s Day. You will never see me complaining about his gifts, because he gives me some time away from the home at a spa for a massage, facial, or both. Taking a time out for myself is worth much more to me than a pair of earrings I will wear only a few times a year, or flowers that will wither in a few weeks. I also believe in the benefits of massage therapy to help rejuvenate and soothe my body and mind.
Ever since we found out about Massage Envy, it has been a game changer. Massage Envy incorporates what you love about spas- cleanliness, professionalism, and a soothing environment, but offer membership packages for those who want to get the most out of their spa experience.
I was invited to try out a prenatal massage at the Massage Envy Queens location. Once inside, Massage Envy was very similar to other spas I had been to with the exception of one thing- the service BEFORE the service. Once I was settled in the waiting area and given forms to fill out asking what my problem areas were, the receptionist came and sat with me to go over my expectations to ensure I was getting the most out of my experience. Once she had a better idea of my needs, she relayed that information to my massage therapist, Riu. The next step was heading to the massage room, where it was set up just for me with a heated bed and pillows to keep my ever growing belly comfortable. I have been for a handful of prenatal massages before this and I have always been asked to lie on my side as opposed to my belly, so the pillows help get into the proper position.
I didn’t have to tell Riu much before she went to work on my problem areas. Suffering from SPD – Symphisis Pubis Dysfunction, which basically means my pelvic bone has separated causing excruciating pain with movement, I didn’t think there was much she could do about that. I was only hoping she would settle my angry sciatic nerve that just added to the daily pregnancy pains I was dealing with. An hour went by and when I walked out of Massage Envy I was already feeling some relief. By the time I got home, my husband was impressed that I was able to walk normally- something I haven’t done since the 4th month of pregnancy. As the day progressed and I got a good night’s sleep, I woke up with considerably less pain than the day before. I’m not claiming that every massage will relieve the pains I had, but I am saying that as compared to my previous experiences, Riu from Massage Envy was able to work out my kinks and give me the relief I needed.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from a chain-spa, since all the spas I had previously been to were private businesses. Massage Envy keeps up the standards with professional and knowledgable staff that you expect when receiving spa services. Will I be back? Yes! And since they offer annual membership packages they fit into my lifestyle and makes my husband’s life easier by allowing him to pay one time at the beginning of the year. I can then go once a month or every other month and add time to my service. You can find out more about Massage Envy Package Prices and all the options, add-ons, and signature services they offer.
