Years ago, a close friend of mine had warned me that although our drinking water was filtered, there were many toxins still making their way into our water supply. Her comments made me scared just thinking about the things I could have been ingesting, and I wondered if other’s knew what she knew. Leave it to Seventh Generation to take steps to ensuring our world is safer. If you don’t know about Seventh Generation, let me tell you a little about them from my own experience. When I was pregnant with my first, I knew I didn’t want my baby being exposed to chemicals. The more I researched the more I learned that harsh chemicals didn’t mean a cleaner home. Fast forward nearly 5 years later and we are a Seventh Generation family. From household cleaners to diapers, wipes, laundry and dish detergent, we have taken the necessary steps to make sure our home isn’t riddled with chemicals.
The Toxic Substances Control Act needs to be updated since the last time it was updated was 1976. Can you believe that? With all the studies and knowledge out there, we need to make people more aware and bring the TSCA up to date. Too many toxic substances are used in the home and places our children and families are exposed, and it’s time to take the proper precautions. Companies don’t even need to disclose the toxic substances they are using because there are no regulations regarding usage of these chemicals. Did you know that babies are exposed to nearly 300 chemicals before birth!? The average American has at least 152 chemicals of concern in their blood and urine, according to the CDC.
Here’s where you come in. The Seventh Generation Toxin Freedom Fighters are on a mission to rid the planet of toxic chemicals. They need to collect 100,000 signatures before April 22, 2014. If those signatures are collected, Congress will be required to act on the bill.
Thanks for the heads up on the petition. I’m heading over the sign it now.
It really is amazing that the bill hasn’t been updated since 1976. I recognize that we are not going to go back to a world where everything is 100% natural, no chemicals, no preservatives… that said, I really would hope that someone would have our backs and help protect us from those things that can really do damage.
We know so much more now about the products we use than we did in 1976, the fact that it hasn’t been updated doesn’t make sense. I love that there are products out there making a difference, though.
Wow it’s been that long since it was updated? That’s insane especially with so much knowledge gained since then.
I want my home and family to be as toxin and chemical free as possible. If I had my way, I’d live in the forest, in a cabin without anything but electricity for hot water and my hair drier but nothing else. I love making my own stuff because I know where it came from.
I love the Seventh Generation products. I’ve been trying to use more natural cleaners in my home for the past year and I’ve been very pleased with the results.
