My kids, although picky, are pretty good eaters. They love their fruits and veggies, but they also love their sweets. I try to cut sugar intake whenever possible, and I always manage to sneak veggies into the foods they do love. I’m not a fan of artificial sweeteners when it comes to my kids, but sweeteners that come from REAL sources, like fruits, are ok in my book. Monk Fruit in The Raw is made with real fruit and can be substituted for sugar in just about any recipe. I decided to add it to my “healthy” brownies which are adapted from The Sneaky Chef. As September is Childhood Obesity Awareness month, cutting sugar calories is a great way to teach healthier habits while still enjoying your favorite foods.
Our healthier brownies contain 1/2 cup of sugar, so instead of regular sugar I used Monk Fruit in The Raw sweetener. The recipe contains pureed spinach and blueberries, so you are getting a good dose of antioxidants and vitamins with these Sneaky Chef brownies. Don’t worry, the kids will never know! Monk Fruit tastes like sugar, measures like sugar, but doesn’t act like sugar- it has zero calories!
To find a list of recipes that are made better with Monk Fruit in the Raw, you can visit the In The Raw site. For daily use, the In The Raw turbinado sugar is our go-to sweetener, so finding a zero-calorie option in a company we already use is a plus! Other places I use Monk Fruit in The Raw is in my daily coffee, whether it is iced or hot coffee.
