Mamma Mia NYC Review

Last month, I took 3 of my girl friends to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. We were all in need for some girl-time, and this was the perfect girl’s night out! Before the show, we took a stroll around Times Square, and although NYC is in our backyard, feeling like a tourist was a lot of fun! Mamma Mia was a first for all of us, and none had seen the movie in its entirety. I have been a fan of ABBA since I was a kid, although their music wasn’t really “in” at that time. The person that listened to ABBA’s music and thought “This music has a story line” is a genius!

We all agreed- the show was AMAZING. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting NYC, living in NYC, and even if you’ve seen it before, go watch it again. It’s upbeat, funny, and keeps you interested throughout. I was actually shocked when I looked around and no one was dancing about half way through the show, but at the end, there were only a handful of people still seated. The majority of the audience was up and dancing.

I would not even compare the musical to  the movie. While I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the movie, I wasn’t interested enough to keep watching it. The musical was a different story. The actors brought you into their world in Greece, where Donna run a Taverna and has a daughter who is getting married soon. Her daughter grew up without knowing who her father was, and now that she found her mom’s old diary, can piece together her mom’s past. The only problem? There were three possible “baby-daddies.” I won’t give away the ending… you’ll just have to go see it! I promise, the show will not disappoint!
