Many people are unaware that it is very common for newborns to have reflux. Before reaching for the acid reflux medications, parents should be instructed to keep babies inclined for some time after feeding the child. My little girl suffered from reflux and colic. My pediatrician had the same beliefs that I did about medication – which was that it would be a very last resort. By keeping my little girl inclined after feedings, as well as during naps, her reflux and colic improved.
I reviewed the Nap Nanny with my friend’s son who has severe acid reflux. She was also reluctant to put him on medication, and after she expressed her concerns to me she did a trial run with the Nap Nanny. Her son is only 2 months now and his sleep deprived mama is ready for ANY remedy that will soothe her new baby. She has switched his formula four times and has resorted to placing her son in his car seat to sleep. Even while he is sleeping, she cannot get any rest because she knows of the dangers associated with letting a baby sleep in a carseat for a prolonged period of time.
When I offered her the Nap Nanny to review, she immediately accepted but also told me that she did not expect much from it. It looked comfortable and contoured to her baby’s body – but she has lost hope over the past few weeks. Upon observing it, she commented that the Nap Nanny sat at the same angle as the car seat, but it looked much more comfortable and well cushioned. She placed him in it for his first nap and kept him close as she observed his sleep. For the first time, he did not wake up screaming. He woke up wide eyed, looking around. This was a first for him! Usually, he wakes up from his slumber in reflux induced pain.
