I’m so ready. I think I was ready from the time I moved into my home. We had to gut the entire apartment because the tenants before were less than civilized and everything went – except the bathroom. My home looks modern, but my bathroom is a light blue and white from the 1970s. I guess I can count my blessings that it isn’t yellow, but the old blue tub just has to go. This is the one room in my home that is an eyesore to me. Word of advice: DO NOT PUT TILES IN THE SHOWER. Not my choice, of course, but definitely something I would change. Tiles give a false illusion of something that is easy to clean, but once that mold sets into the grout, well, you’ll be singing a different tune.
Now, in a NYC apartment, there isn’t much room to work with when you are talking about a bathroom. I’m lucky to have a bathroom vanity at all, as my neighbors only have a sink and no storage underneath. Since the entire apartment needed so much work, we had to skimp on the vanity and go with something cheap – but we also didn’t realize we’d still be living in this apartment. Funny what life throws at you! If I were to do it all again, I would have put a little more love into the bathroom and placed a modern vanity and changed the wall inside the shower area – at least for my sanity! I love the unique wood vanities that look like furniture with the modern sinks. One can dream!
When it comes to bathroom furniture there are so many ideas and styles that you can have fun with, but it can also be a bit daunting. Since changing the entire bathroom was not an option for me, I should have opted to have a little fun with what I was able to change, but at that point I just wanted the work to be done! All I can say is thank goodness that ugly blue toilet is gone!
