There are some baby items that you get and a few weeks or months pass and you wonder what possessed you to make that purchase. Then it just sits in a corner collecting dust until you find a pregnant friend to pawn it off on. I can tell you I have had MANY of these products, including bath time “essentials” that ended up in the garbage for harboring mold. The only bathtub I actually used and loved was The First Years Sure Comfort Newborn to Toddler Tub. When my toddler outgrew it I was very disappointed because I loved the security of having her in a confined space for bathtime to ensure she wouldn’t slip and fall in the tub.
Let me tell you all the things I love about The First Years Sure Comfort Newborn to Toddler Tub and then I will tell you the one thing I don’t like. First off, you can use the tub from the time your baby is ready for their first bath. There is a cushioned sling that attaches to the tub and cradles baby, keeping their body well supported. It sits high enough so that baby isn’t touching the hard plastic, but it sits low enough so that their body is submerged in the water to keep them warm. I felt secure using the sling knowing that my baby’s head was well supported and I didn’t have to hold her with one hand and bathe her with the other – which is very dangerous! The best thing about the sling – it doesn’t mold! I also threw it in with the baby laundry every few days to make sure it didn’t hold any soap within the cushion.
Once my little girl outgrew the sling, she was able to continue using the infant side which is slightly reclined. She was able to lounge comfortably while I bathed her, and at this point we were even able to introduce some toys to make bath time fun. By the time she was sitting unassisted, we had turn the tub around and used the toddler side, which seats baby in an upright position. The tub is two sided, which makes it useful for a long time.
Cleaning the tub is easy. A quick release from the plug on the bottom of the tub and all the water empties right into the sink or the tub. Rinsing with hot water keeps it clean, and then you can leave it upside down in the tub to dry. Can’t get any easier. The plug also serves another purpose – when the water is too hot, the plug turns white, so you know if it is unsafe for baby.
Now that I told you all the features I love about the tub, let me tell you what I don’t like. Living in a NYC apartment, space is an issue. I often got frustrated that the tub would sit in our bathroom to dry. It is bulky, but being realistic- how else would you bathe your baby? A baby tub is essential and this is the best one out there that I have tried.
You would be shocked to find out that you get all these features for only $20. If you shop around, you can even find it cheaper! Target has it for $17.99 and when I purchased the tub I got it from Kohls with 30% off! You really can’t beat that price tag for something that will not only grow with your baby, but last with all of your babies!
