I’d first like to say that my thoughts and prayers go out to all the people who are suffering from the effects of Sandy’s devastation. My family and I are lucky. We currently own two homes while we transition into our new house, and both were in Sandy’s path. Thankfully, we only had very minor damage. The kids slept through most of the strong winds and we didn’t lose power or water at the house we’re currently living in. I joked in one of my online posts that the wind was interfering with my enjoyment of some of my favorite shows we had recorded….but the truth is that I was pretty freaked.
The day after the storm, my husband decided to take a drive to our new house when things calmed down. We were supposed to have the floors sanded and redone and move in on Sunday Nov 4th, but as we feared we had no power there. In fact, my husband had to navigate around downed trees and power lines all over our new neighborhood. I postponed the floor company, our contractor, and the movers….who were all dealing with tragedies and inconveniences of their own.
At home, we were all already suffering from a bit of cabin fever and my oldest spiked a high fever on the night of the storm. I think it’s just a virus, fever with no other symptoms, but it definitely added to my stress level! At least I would have hubby home for most likely the rest of the week….if not longer!
But I have almost all of the kids toys, our entire kitchen, and most of our belongings packed in boxes already. So, the boys spent some time drawing/coloring on the boxes, which are literally all over my house. The fever at least gave me an excuse to have the TV on all day and I didn’t have to feel too guilty about it. We also carved pumpkins while the baby napped. We’ve had rain in the forecast on Halloween for a while, so I planned in advance and asked the kids to pick a Halloween dessert, (they picked a cake), instead of Trick-or-Treating, so I broke that out to keep them happy and excited. Oh, and believe it or not…..we had a hawk in our backyard trying to attack a pigeon. Crazy. But I’m not sure what to do tomorrow. School will be closed again and my husband is starting to lose his mind with my three little pumpkins home all day again. What is everyone else planning to do?
Ugh Sandy left us with so much heartache and a huge mess.. I am so thankful my family is all okay.. Glad you guys stayed safe!
Such a mess 🙁 I’m glad everyone is safe though
I’m on the west coast, so I never experience natural disasters like hurricanes. The photos terrify me, though. My friend’s parents have 3 feet of water in their house, which is right on the water. Such a tragedy and such a mess. Ugh, my heart goes out to everyone who has to deal with this.
Aww, man sorry you had to deal with that. I hope your oldest feels better.
Sandy hit us too! We were up all night bailing water to make sure we didn’t have a flooded basement. but all is OK now.
So glad you guys are okay!
