When I picked my boys up from school today I had a few Mungi Bands wrapped around my wrist. I was waiting to see how long it would take for them to notice them. Not long. But to my surprise a few of the other mommies noticed them as well! I explained that Mungi Bands are magnetic bands that were invented by a Dad as the new social network for kids to connect and collect. They form chains from hair bands to bracelets to express the mood of the moment.
When I had the boys safely strapped into their car seats I let them each pick 4 bands to wear. My 4-year-old predictably picked the spiderweb, skull, guitar, and rock star….while my 3-year-old picked the mustaches. My older son asked if he could wear them to school, but I explained that he would have to leave them in his school bag during class. After our short drive home he exclaimed, “when I’m a big boy I’ll be able to bring my bands to school! I can’t bring them to school now because all of my friends will want them so I have to leave them in my schoolbag.”
After school the boys played with their bands. They recommended age is 8 and up, but my little ones were having lots of fun with them. While I was giving my baby girl her bed time bath my 4-year-old came into the bathroom with lots to tell me. “When my baby sister grows up I want to get her lots of Mungi Bands.” He also showed me that he connected them into a lasso. “I made a lasso so when there are lots of toys on the floor I can lasso them to clean up.” He also showed me that the bathtub is made of metal because his Mungi Bands stick to it.
During my bedtime routine I was reading Dr. Seuss books and my enthusiastic son kept talking to me about his Mungi Bands. “My favorite one is the spider web because it looks like Spiderman.” And “I like the guitar because it makes me look like a Rock Star.” I definitely have a fan in my house! As he was climbing into bed I told him that he would have to take them off to sleep. He slipped them off his writs, and threw them at the radiator. They stuck as he said “they stick because it’s metal”.
