My husband and I both knew that we would try our best to create a love for books and reading when we had kids. We started reading to my first daughter when she was a few months old, and now she asks to be read to all the time. She has a full library in her room and often asks us to take her book shopping. Having two teachers as parents, you can imagine the excitement we feel when she prefers a new book over a toy!
My infant has probably had more exposure to books at a younger age than my oldest daughter had because we make her a part of our nightly routine of reading. The problem is that the books we read with my preschooler are not age appropriate or engaging for my infant, so when we were asked to review the new PLAY DOH books by Silver Dolphin, I was happy to have something to read with my youngest baby.
We started off reading them the same way I started with my oldest baby. I point to the object and tell her what it is. At 12 months old, she is starting to repeat some words and gets excited to see friendly characters. The PLAY DOH board books are perfect for younger children because pages won’t get torn and can withstand rough infant tosses!
The five books include:
Mama’s Little Ducklings. One of Mama Duck’s eggs is on a roll! Where could it be?
My First Words. This book introduces young readers to a wonderful world of words with over 50 labeled illustrations!
Counting Bunnies. Ten silly bunnies teach kids to count from one to ten!
Making Shapes with Monkey. Monkey uses shapes to make all kinds of useful items for his friends.
Rainbow Butterflies. Butterflies in all the colors of the rainbow subtly hide for young readers to discover.
The pages are brightly colored and include fun characters. My preschooler has even suggested we try making some of the animals portrayed in the books out of real Play-Doh, but I haven’t taken on that feat yet! Both my children as well as myself love the new PLAY DOH books! You can purchase the books from Amazon. You can also enter to win the entire set of board books right here!
