When it comes to feeding my family, I’ve become quite picky over the years. There are a few tried and trusted brands we use regularly, but I’m always willing to try something new, as long as it meets my “picky mom” guidelines. With our newest baby on the way, I feel like I’ve tried just about everything and know what I’m looking for when it comes to feeding my kids.
Beech-Nut is a name that has been around for decades. I had previously never tried Beech-Nut baby foods because they didn’t offer an organic variety, but now that they do I will be using it for baby #3. I typically make my own baby food, but there are instances where jarred foods are necessary and I’m always stocked when my kids are in that stage. I want jarred baby food to look and taste similar to what I would make at home, so when we picked up a jar of Beech-Nut organic sweet potato, it was going to be held up to strict mommy-guidelines. Texture is a big one- kids don’t want watered down foods. They want (and need) to be able to feel the textures in their mouths. Taste is another important factor. The fresh, whole foods kids are introduced to are usually good-tasting, naturally. There is no reason to add flavors or preservatives to fresh, ripe produce.
So, did Beech-Nut organic meet our guidelines? It sure did! For starters, it’s organic and fits into our lifestyle. The sweet potato flavor tasted just like it was expected to- like fresh sweet mashed potatoes. And the texture was appropriate for a baby’s first food. Our little taste tester was my friend’s 10 month old baby boy who is already a foodie, and he didn’t skip a beat when eating the whole jar of Beech-Nut Organic sweet potatoes.
