When it comes to birthday party planning for my kids, I’ve always taken charge of creating my own invitations and thank you notes. I’m not very crafty or creative, but once we settle on a theme everything else seems to fall in place. For my daughter’s 4th birthday, she chose a Hawaiian them, complete with a luau, tikis, and fun pink and line green colors. I designed her 4th birthday party invitations and had them printed, while blank Thank You notes were ordered from Tiny Prints. The thank you notes were plain with a pink hibiscus trim, and it was up to me to either hand write each card or print them up. Since my handwriting is horrible, I chose the latter!
When it comes to printing on card stock, I’ve become a pro. I always have my handy ruler to make sure all my measurements are correct, and I print on regular paper before I start the “real” printing, just in case my measurements are off or I forget to change a setting. When you print on card stock, always remember to change the size on your document AND your printer. In my case, the card stock was 3 1/2 x 5 with a 1 inch trim, so my printing had to be slightly off center.
I created my own template on the HP Rove 20 using Microsoft Word. Don’t be fooled by Microsoft Word being only a word processor. This mighty program packs a punch when it comes to crafts and its become my favorite because its so easy to manipulate settings to make them do what I want. Thank you notes are super easy to make and doesn’t require much skill, but if you check out my personalized placemats post you will see that you can use fun graphics and add charts to create the look!
Once I added my text, I was time to tell the printer that it was going to print on smaller paper, where I was feeding the paper from, and which direction I expected my letter to face. Yes, I’m demanding, and I expect my technology to keep up with my demands. The HP Envy 4500 printer doesn’t make it hard to get what I want, and the best part is that it’s pretty easy to set up and get around the menus.
Do you like making your own projects? I love the freedom of personalizing everything, down to the font and colors used! One lucky reader can win an HP Envy 4500 printer to complete some awesome crafts, photo printing, coupon printing, or whatever you may ever need a great printer for! I would give this printer to my daughter, a Sophomore/Junior in college who has just gotten her own apartment and doesn’t have a printer, yet. I think she would use this for everything. One cool thing she does is crochet, so she might be able to print crochet patterns—chem/biology papers and crochet patterns–that’s my girl.
