From the time my oldest daughter was sitting, we use to call her Tinker Belle because she would tinker with everything. She tried to make connections between objects and try to figure out how they work. At almost 4 years old, she is still quite the little engineer, and loves to build and learn. It was only natural that she would end up with toy building sets to foster that creativity.
When my daughter received the Playskool Tinkertoy Pink Building set by KNEX, the first thing she noticed was the animals on the box. Not only can she build things, but she could create animals too! With 150 pieces, there will be hours of fun and creativity with the Tinkertoy set. We started off making the suggested items in the instructions, but soon after my tot was creating her own unique structures – a princess castle for the princess and her horse, a dog for herself and other creative figures that came to life with the included eye pieces.
Although the set is not intended for children under 3, I let my 1 year old in on the action but supervised her to ensure she didn’t try to eat any of the pieces. There are some smaller pieces which may pose as a choking hazard, so if you have younger children in the home be sure to pay close attention if they are playing with an older sibling.
When my husband came home and saw the new Tinkertoy set, he was excited that it reminded him of the old K’Nex toys. The rest of the afternoon was spent creating structures with a back story. My little girl loved the quality time with her dad, and I loved that not only did the Playskool Tinkertoy set keep her entertained, it also helped her understand concepts and foster creativity. Who said all the good toys needed batteries? When playtime is over, all the pieces can be stored neatly in the box they came with. This is one set that all the little kids in the family will be getting for their birthdays! The Tinkertoy set retails at $43.99 and can be purchased at Toys R Us, Target, KNEX, and Amazon.
You can connect with KNEX on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram to see what other’s are building and get some creative ideas!
