If there is one thing that has and will always remind me of Valentine’s Day, it’s Necco Conversation Hearts. Did you know they have been around for 150 years!? I couldn’t believe that when I heard it. There is something about giving or receiving that little box of conversation hearts that reminds me of my childhood. The delicious sweet treat and the fun sayings that are updated as trends change is a great way to spread the love this season. For the past two years, Conversation Hearts have been included in the goody bags my daughter and I make for her classes.
This Valentine’s Day there is a fun contest, “Color Your Own” box where kids could win a $1,000 savings bond and the opportunity to have their own personal saying appear on a Sweetheart for the 2016 Valentine’s season. How cool is that!? The contest is open to three age groups, 5-7, 8-10, and 11-12. After your child has colored and designed their own Sweethearts box, you can help them upload the image at the Necco submission page from now until March 1, 2015.
Here’s what you can win:
- Grand Prize (awarded to highest voted entry from each of the three age groups)
$1000 Savings Bond Certificate
Opportunity to have your own personal saying appear on a Sweetheart for the 2015 Valentine’s Day season
- Runner Up (awarded to second highest voted entry from each of the three age groups)
Giant NECCO goodie bag filled with NECCO candies such as Sweethearts, NECCO Wafers, Mary Janes, Clark Bars, Candy
Buttons, and Mighty Malts (valued at $200)

What a cute contest! I remember having sweethearts when I was younger,
That’s a great contest! I love Conversation Hearts. I always eat the orange ones first – they are my favorites.
Those are one of my families favorite treats to get for Valentines. In fact I will be picking some up some to make their presents, I’ll also be entering the contest!
How crazy those hearts have been around for that long! I will need to look into the contest.
I remember my kids doing valentines when they were little. Now that they are teens it is nowhere near as much fun!
