This may seem silly, but at (almost) 30 I’m already starting to think of my retirement. I’ve been working since I was a teenager, and once I was able to start saving towards a retirement plan, I did. After I started my teaching career, I felt that I had a safety net for retirement, since there was a teacher’s retirement system in my network. After I lost my job, my first fear was providing for my family, and my second fear was saving for retirement.
I want to be able to enjoy my retirement: travel the world, spend time with my husband, and maybe even help my own children raise their families. Although I know I will be on a fixed income, I don’t want to have to get a job after retirement to help make ends meet. I worked with someone who told me he was too old to work, and that he had retired ten years before. The only reason he decided to take a job as a custodian in a school was to pay his bills. This made me so sad, because he would have to work the rest of his life just to live comfortably. I’ve been checking out Tips for Planning Your Retirement from Genworth Financial to try to gauge what my needs will be, and what would be a fair amount to start putting away for my retirement that will not affect us right now. Of course, I don’t want to take funds that we will need now to provide for our family, in order to plan for the future.
Since I am currently a Stay at Home Mom with a fun blogging gig, I am concerned that I am not contributing enough to my retirement. I’ve been thinking of ways we can afford a retirement plan while not taking away from our current budget. Have you taken any consideration about your retirement plan?

I worry about this being a sahm..
it’s never to early to start thinking about retirement.
I started saving the first year I started working.
And it’s never too late to start! My hubby and I both have been self-employed for a good part of the last 10 years, so it’s something we really are working on.
