Last week I had the opportunity to attend an event at Duane Reade to check out the latest RoC Brand products and speak with the experts and walk the aisles with Dr. Debra Jaliman, who is a NYC dermatologist. I learned about the benefits of using RoC brand products (which I had experienced first hand a few months ago when I purchased their skin cream with Retinol) and also find out more about battling and preventing the signs of aging.
Dr. Jaliman gave us some expert advice, which I started using in my daily routine. The number one thing she emphasized was “keep it simple” when it came to skin care. When washing your face, use a mild cleanser. A gentle exfoliant should be used, so she recommended a soft cloth or cotton rounds to wipe away dull skin. She recommended RoC products as a cleanser, such as the Daily Resurfacing Discs, and follow up with a retinol based moisturizer like RoC Retinol Correction Deep Wrinkle Cream. She stressed the use of a sunscreen moisturizer for day-time use and suggested using nothing less than SPF 30. This will prevent sun spots from occurring and keep collagen tissue from being damaged.
She also touched on the basics of retinol and what it is. Retinol is the #1 dermatologist recommended product that can be used to repair fine lines and deep wrinkles. It is derived from Vitamin A and causes epidermal cells to slough off and improves skin pigmentation. It can also reduce crows feet, fine lines, wrinkles, and improves the moisture level and texture in skin. Since retinol can be drying, it should be paired up with a moisturizer, such as glycerine- which helps your skin pull in moisture. Retinol is not all created equally, and products should state that they use retinol and not a derivative of retinol. She also mentioned that when you are purchasing retinol products to ensure the company states there are clinical studies done on the product.
