It’s not often that mommy gets a time out for herself, and when this mama has some girl time, it’s ALWAYS extra special because these days are few and far between. Usually we opt for a Lady’s Night Out, but this weekend, we decided to have a low key night and stay in. I invited three of my closest girls over but we all know those last minute surprises that come up when you have kids, so only one mama was able to make it. Regardless of it being just the two of us, we still had a great time filled with fun and laughter.
“Women’s” issues sometimes come up in conversations when I’m with my friends. We always share stories of our families and health issues we’ve come across. With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, this was a great opportunity to share what I already knew about breast cancer with my friend. I’ve watched my own grandmother defeat the disease and have been inspired by her bravery and strength in trying to help others be aware of their bodies and do what they need to do to stay healthy.
During our night in, we sipped on pink cocktails which was a concoction of strawberries, bananas, and rum – all blended together with some ice. We also watched our all-time favorite chick flick: The Notebook. Sounds fun, right?!? It truly was a relaxing evening sans the kiddos and hubbies and we promised we would attempt an evening such as this one at least once a month. Of course, we had to have something yummy to munch on, so for dinner I made a homemade pizza with fresh tomatoes from a food coop that we are part of, and for dessert we made a banana split- without the ice cream! It was delicious: Banana with a spoonful of almond butter and chopped M & Ms. Delicious and hit the spot, without too many calories!
