My toddler is a semi-picky eater. I count my blessings each time she asks me for a bowl of broccoli or a piece of spinach pie, but then there are other moments when she is completely put off by food and will only eat certain things. I guess I can’t complain too much, but I still have to think of appetizing and nutritious meals for her everyday, whether she it is a picky day or not.
Now that she is in preschool, lunch is a lot more involved than I thought. Her school is a tree nut-free school so I can’t send her to school with the almond butter she was use to. Getting her to eat a sandwich to begin with was a mission, but now that she loves sandwiches, I find that this is the most convenient way to get a great lunch in her belly. I always use whole grain bread, and when she takes sandwiches to school I only use sunbutter. I also try to include a fruit and a veggie to balance out her meal.
Grains are so important in a diet for proper brain function. For this reason I make sure my toddler is getting whole grains throughout the day. Did you know that November is National Bread Month? That is a great reason to celebrate with a sandwich! Sandwiches are one of the most convenient ways to make meals for your family. They are so versatile and can be “made to order” with specific ingredients that are sure to please any palate. Now, what’s a sandwich without bread? The complex carbs found in bread sustain you throughout the day and provide a great source of energy.
What are your favorite ingredients in a sandwich? I’d love to hear some interesting combos!
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the Grain Foods Foundation. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
I have a somewhat picky-eater too. It depends on the day and his attitude.
My son eats exactly three sandwiches–peanut butter, cheese and meat. That’s it!
Peanut butter and bananas!
I’m such a carb girl, so I’m all for bread month.
well that’s fitting since I had toast for breakfast, lol.
I have picky kids too. Two of them won’t do sandwiches, but they like muffins….so that is what I put in their lunches.
Wow, I had no idea bread had an entire month to itself. LOL My boys love peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
My 3 year old is the PICKIEST…. I have a handful of foods that I can get him to eat….
My 4 year old is MR Picky! He does love bread though, but it is hard to get to eat him to eat what the rest of the family is eating.
I love BLTs with whole grain bread!
We love braids…. maybe a little too much.
We love avocado and bacon sandwiches!! 🙂
picker eaters all around the table here. peanut butter and jelly are favorites
I think my Mother-in-law celebrates this every month, lol.
Mmm BLT here 🙂
I’ve had BLTs for breakfast the past two mornings. Nom nom!
I really love different cheeses in my sandwiches. I also have a roasted red pepper spread which is so delicious!
We are actually GF in our home so very little sandwiches are consumed here at all.
Since we try to keep the carbs at bay a bit, we do sandwich and bagel thins as opposed to the entire thick slices of regular bread. It works out quite well and tastes great!
